I have been a member of Hillhead Hockey Club since 2003 beginning in the juniors section and eventually working my way through to the men’s teams playing both as an outfielder and a goalkeeper. I played for many teams over the seasons including the 7th – 4th teams in which I captained the 4th team for a season and a few appearances for the 3rd to 1st team. I also was involved in West District under 16s and under 14s as a younger member before having to stop playing hockey in 2012.
However, I have been keen to be involved in this great hockey club as it has helped me grow as a hockey player and grow as a person. I have held non-playing roles including 1st team manager and recently appointed both Vice President and Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO) of the Men’s section. As a previous junior member and following the mantra of Hillhead Hockey Club I believe that improving and encouraging youth players is a key aspect of what we stand for and therefore we must look out for the wellbeing and protection of the children and young players at all times as well as vulnerable adults.
This is a responsibility of all members of the club who must agree to the Hillhead Mens Hockey Club Code of Conduct but the overall responsibility lies with the CWPO and I will strive to ensure all young members of the club have a voice and can play and grow in a safe, healthy and encouraging environment.
If any issues ever arise please do not hesitate to contact me. Any concerns you or your child has will be treated with sensitivity, confidentiality and taken seriously no matter how big or small you feel the issue may be.

I’ve been playing for Hillhead since 1973, when we only had two teams and played on the grass at Hughenden. Now we have five and I’ve played for all of them at some stage throughout the years, as well as summer hockey teams from Remnants to Flashers. For the last few years, I’ve been playing with one of the development teams and it has been great to see all the new talent coming through the club. We have always been a family club and in fact over the last few years there have been a lot of our former juniors and development team players who have come back to us after completing their university careers.
We want to provide a safe environment where all our members can develop their talents to the full, whether that is playing or officiating on the pitch or working behind the scenes in organising the club. Everybody in the club contributes to this good feeling by keeping to the various Codes of Conduct and encouraging other members to learn new skills in hockey, many of which can be transferred to other parts of life. But, as in any family, concerns can arise, and that’s where you should contact me. Nothing is ever too small to need considering and anything which is said will be treated seriously and confidentially and acted upon – I’m a great believer in tackling things at the very beginning and not letting them get out of hand. So please, if you as a member or parent or guardian of a member have any concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
