3-1: M1s vs Kelburne (Premiership) - 08/10/22

The Last Dance

The rain peeked through the clouds on a dreich day at GHK, half the team fueled with a Beefcake breakfast (Only half of one for Sean)

A mixed Hillhead team hit the pitch with several absences in the team, a 22/23 debut for Andrew Hilton and a final farewell from Ewan Campbell in goals before he bids farewell for Canada.

Hillhead hit the ground running and immediately pressuring the Kelburne 25 and making the goalkeeper lift his tail to alert. It didn't take long until first blood was drawn by a flying Carder mid air reverse into the backboard, 1-0.

It wasn't long before Hillhead doubled their advantage thanks to a Trademark Sincy Slider at the second time of asking, 2-0

The second half was a dull affair in the eyes of the spectators will Hillhead keeping the ball well and racking up the possession stats. Both teams had their chances with Kelburne having a chance on the break being saved and a couple short corners being kept out by Campbell and his defence.

The 3rd quarter saw the sun split the clouds and Hillhead split the Kelburne defence once again. Several chances fell the home sides way, with balls unable to be picked up in the D, Coach Yan Adams was denied his first goal of the season by the Spanish Umpire's dubious choice of where the ball was in relation to the line. Hillhead had even more chances from the set piece but both options, Iain Hilton and Andrew Sinclair couldn't convert. The goal came from the quietest man on the park, maybe Kelburne never heard him, but Marcus MacIntyre Kemp contributed a beautiful well worked sweep past the Kelburne keeper to round off a very well moved Hillhead attack.

The final quarter was unfortunately lackluster from both sides. Hillhead had their chances again but couldn't convert meanwhile Kelburne were under pressure but quick to counter on Hillheads mistakes. Several shots and penalty corners were denied by both Campbell and his defence yet again, including one save where Campbell decided in saving the ball to rugby tackle the post in the process, again showing his skill of killing play and running down the clock.

Unfortunately he couldn't end the day and his Hillhead career with a clean sheet as with 1 minute to go the Kelburne attacker managed to weave through the defence and slot the ball into the net.

Hillhead are now 2 wins from 4 and claimed an important 3 points in the race for top 6, and face a difficult task next week facing Goal Hungry Edinburgh Uni
