In focus: M1s vs Western Wildcats

Match Details:
Saturday 11th September - Upper Windyedge @ 3.30pm - Scottish Premiership - Gameweek 1

These two sides last met in the final weekend of games before the country moved into a COVID-19 lockdown. On that weekend, Western Lettings Hillhead won the league fixture against the highflying Wildcats 4-2 with braces for Graeme Campbell and Fraser Ward but succumbed to a dramatic 1-2 loss on the Sunday in the Scottish Cup.

In the past year much has changed for both sides ahead of this fixture, Western have added the experienced Jonny Christie from Kelburne and Andrew Webb from Loughborough University among others as they push for an eighth league title, which would be their first since the early 2000s.

Lets focus on Hillhead though, we are delighted to welcome Cameron Butler and Thomas Cole who have already slotted in nicely within the group as well as former Hillhead junior Jimmy Lynch Small returning from university on the East coast.

Another notable graduate of Hillhead juniors is Fraser Ward, now stepping up to be 1st Team Captain for the 2021/2022 season. Fraser’s passion and drive make him ideal for the role and will ensure that the squad remain focused as we aim for a successful season in the Scottish Premiership.

In terms of actual commentary on the upcoming match? Given that the last competitive fixtures in Scotland were played 18 months ago it is anyone’s guess. What can be guaranteed though is goals, which are never in short supply in matches between these teams.

Hillhead will be encouraged by their recent friendly win over Uddingston, which saw Murray Ross and Matt Carder on the scoresheet. However, the match this weekend will certainly be one of the toughest they face this season.

Make sure and come along to support the boys on their first outing of the season!
