Yan Adams - New Men’s 1st XI Coach
We are delighted to announce Yan Adams as the new 1st XI Coach of Hillhead Men's Hockey Club. We would like to thank Keith Joss for his outstanding leadership over the past few seasons which culminated in the club reaching the Scottish Cup final for the first time. Keith retains his role as Director of Hockey and will support all the club coaches in the upcoming season.
Yan has been developing as a coach across men's, women's and junior sections for well over a decade now. His first significant senior coaching roles were with the Hong Kong Football Club, where he led the women's B-Team as well as training for the men's A and B teams for a number of years – all Premier Division sides. Following a move to MCC Hockey in Melbourne in 2017, he coached the women’s Premier League Reserve side before progressing up the grades in the men’s section, finishing as a player-coach with the 3rd XI in a very strong Victorian state competition. Yan took up an Assistant Coach role with the Hillhead 1st XI for the second half of the 2022/23 season following his arrival in January.
As a player, Yan represented Scotland at all youth levels, playing his club hockey at the highest levels possible in Scotland, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Australia, including two stints in the Euro Hockey League.
On his appointment, Yan commented, “I’m really looking forward to working with Hillhead this season, having got to know the group and their abilities well through the back end of last season. The club has done a lot for my family in the past and so I’m keen to give something back now – specifically, I hope to build on the team’s first ever Cup Final appearance in 2022 and make a proper push for a top six spot this coming season. I’m also keen to continue to develop myself under the guidance of Keith Joss, with all the experience and knowledge he has to offer.”
